Thankful – A Poem

I can feel in my veins
life thrumming
a quiet tune with the taste
of Joplin

There is sun outside
and the soles of my feet
grow into the ground

Breath comes fast
then slow
someday stops
when I shall rest

Green leaves and brown
mockingbird
dove-gentle

To be in this world
this very world
how strange and wonderful
to be.
